Ace Of Cups, Mary Gannon (bass), Marla Hunt (organ, piano), Denise Kaufman (guitar, harmonica), Mary Ellen Simpson (guitar), and Diane Vitalich (drums), were a female band, which was created in San Francisco in 1967 and was active until 1972. I didn’t know them until their release came to me in a promo cd. Well known then, they played in S.F. with the top bands, Michael Bloomfield, Jerry Garcia etc were their fans, they had opened Hendrix's live at The Monterey Pop Festival and when he was asked about the new bands, he was excited and said the name Ace Of Cups. They were at the heart of the psychedelic music of the sixties, but they had not managed to release anything then. Recently they gathered and recorded their old songs, but also a lot of new songs. In fact, this double vinyl represents a course of 50 years!! (Their only release is the cd It's Bad for You But Buy It, which was released in 2003 by Big Beat records). The songs of Ace Of Cups, despite having spent so many years, keep that spark they had at the time, there are some that are great, such as feel good, fantasy 184, taste of one, we can not go back, feel it's in the air, mama's love, circles stones, medley (the hermit - the flame still burns - gold and green - living in the country) and so on, they are also join in the band name like: Bob Weir (Grateful Dead), Peter Coyote, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Pete Sears (Jefferson Airplane), Taj Mahal etc. And for me I have stuck with the unique simplicity!!! And for me I have stuck with the unique simplicity!!! When I heard it from the current recording I lost my mind! But when I saw it and heard it on the west pole documentary of 1968, I am amazed by the beauty that was overflowing with every note, every verse and every picture of the band! It goes without saying that the psychedelic aura of simplicity, this masterpiece, is creepy, it is inconceivable, it is magical!! The album will be released on 9/11, so you have your eyes and ears open!

Οι Ace Of Cups, Mary Gannon (μπάσο), Marla Hunt (όργανο, πιάνο), Denise Kaufman (κιθάρα, φυσαρμόνικα), Mary Ellen Simpson (κιθάρα), and Diane Vitalich (τύμπανα), ήταν μια γυναικεία μπάντα, από τις πρώτες γυναικείες για την ακρίβεια, η οποία δημιουργήθηκε στο Σαν Φρανσίσκο , το 1967 και είχε ενεργή δράση έως και το 1972. Δεν τις γνώριζα έως ότου μου ήρθε η κυκλοφορία τους σε ενα προμο σιντί. Γνωστές, τότε, έπαιζαν με τις κορυφαίες μπάντες, οι Michael Bloomfield, ο Jerry Garcia κλπ ήταν φαν τους, είχαν ανοίξει την συναυλία του Hendrix στο The Monterey Pop Festival και ο ίδιος όταν ρωτήθηκε για τις νέες μπάντες, ενθουσιασμένος αυτός,είπε το όνομα των Ace Of Cups. Έδρασαν στο επίκεντρο της ψυχεδελικής μουσικής των σίξτις, δεν είχαν καταφέρει όμως να κυκλοφορήσουν τίποτα τότε. Πρόσφατα μαζεύτηκαν και ηχογράφησαν τα παλιά τους τραγούδια, αλλά και πολλά καινούργια. Στην ουσία το διπλό αυτό βινύλιο αντιπροσωπεύει πορεία 50 χρόνων!! (Η μόνη κυκλοφορία τους που υπάρχει είναι το cd It's Bad For You But Buy It, το οποίο είχε κυκλοφορήσει το 2003 από την Big Beat records). Τα τραγούδια των Ace Of Cups, παρόλο που έχουν περάσει τόσα χρόνια, διατηρούν αυτή την σπίθα που διέθεταν τότε, υπάρχουν μερικά τα οποία είναι εξαιρετικότατα, όπως τα feel good, fantasy 184, taste of one, we can’t go back again, feel it in the air, mama’s love, circles stones κτλ, έχουν ηχογραφήσει φυσικά και αρκετά πιο ποπ, επίσης συμμετέχουν σε ορισμένα οι: Bob Weir (των Grateful Dead), Peter Coyote, (η περίφημη) Buffy Sainte-Marie, Pete Sears (Jefferson Airplane) και ο Taj Mahal. Φυσικά, έγω, όπως και οι περισσότεροι φαντάζομαι, έχω κολλήσει με το μοναδικό simplicity!!! Όταν το ακούσα από την τωρινή ηχογράφηση μαγέυτικα! Όταν όμως το είδα και το ακούσα στο west pole documentary του 1968, έμεινα άναυδος απο την ομορφία η οποία ξεχείλιζε απο κάθε νότα, κάθε στίχο και απο κάθε εικόνα της μπάντας! Εννοείται φυσικά ότι η ψυχεδελική αύρα του simplicity, αυτού του αριστουργηματικού τραγουδιού, είναι ανατριχιαστική, είναι ασύλληπτη, είναι μαγική!!
