The Blind Shake are three people who grapple with the dirty garage punk surf. This that has crazy guitars, that scatter terror to the insects that exist in your home or flying on the ground/ceiling/wall! I write these things mainly for the awesome tar paper that opens this mini album. Otherwise, it features and fly right which is quite spooky and very good with the guitars hit again through to our brain's neurons, the amazing surf/punk a clock, a window, a pyramid while fun has and the tweaked salt. Also, damage seems to have caused in the minds of these three types the Cramps! Which is the less painless way to hear very loud such an album? Of course to put the vinyl in its place, to put the amplifier at 7-8 and leaving running! 100-200 meters distance is well! This volume ratio and distance will make you appreciate it better!

Οι Blind Shake είναι 3 άτομα που καταπιάνονται με το βρώμικο γκαράζ πανκ. Αυτό το οποίο έχει σαλταρισμένες κιθάρες που σκορπάνε τον τρόμο στα έντομα που υπάρχουν στο σπίτι σου, είτε πετούμενα, είτε εδάφους/ταβανιού/τοίχου! Αυτά τα γράφω κυρίως για το τρομερό tar paper που ανοίγει αυτό το μίνι άλμπουμ. Κατά τα άλλα διαθέτει και το fly right το οποίο είναι αρκετά spooky και πολύ καλό με τις κιθάρες πάλι να χτυπούν κατευθείαν στους νευρώνες του εγκεφάλου μας, ενώ χαβαλέ έχει και το πειραγμένο salt. Επίσης, ζημιά φαίνεται ότι έχουν προκαλέσει στα μυαλά των τριών αυτών τύπων οι Cramps! Ποιος ο ποιο ανώδυνος τρόπος για να ακούσεις πολύ δυνατά ένα τέτοιο άλμπουμ; μα φυσικά να τοποθετήσεις το βινύλιο στη θέση του, να βάλεις την ένταση του ενισχυτή στο 7-8 και να το βάλεις στα πόδια! 100 με 200 μέτρα απόστασης είναι καλά! Αυτή η σχέση έντασης και απόστασης θα σε κάνει να το εκτιμήσεις καλύτερα!

This album is a gathering of 7'' (hard to find) by the Useless Eaters which I didn't know of course! The songs moving between punk of the 70s and ... punk of the 70s! Sometimes the sound is catchy and acquire enough interest, as in linear movement, more new wave in mother earth, mainly due to the guitar, more electro in integrated circuit, while there is and I hate the kids where Ty Segall participates. Fans of punk / rock will love the raw sound, the haters will freak out!!

Το άλμπουμ αυτό είναι μια μάζωξη 7ριων (εξαντλημένων ήδη) των Useless Eaters τους οποίους δεν γνώριζα φυσικά! Τα τραγούδια ηχητικά κινούνται μεταξύ του πανκ των 70ς και του πανκ των 70ς! Ενίοτε ο ήχος γίνεται συναρπαστικός και αποκτάει αρκετό ενδιαφέρον, όπως στο linear movement, πιο new wave στο mother earth, κυρίως λόγω κιθάρας, πιο ηλέκτρο στο integrated circuit, ενώ υπάρχει και το I hate the kids στο οποίο συμμετέχει ο Ty Segall. Οι φίλοι του πανκ/ροκ θα ξετρελαθούν με τον τραχύ ήχο τους, οι οχτροί θα φρικάρουν!!

THE ROARING 420s What is Psych?

The Roaring 420s are from Dresden. This is their debut album and I can say with certainty that it is amazing. They play psychedelic music and they have some garage elements, some surf , some oriental, as they use a sitar and some more ... hippie (as I understand it), the guitars have an impressive sixties sound and the vocals are adorable and very seductive! The 7 minute bury my burden is fantastic and leaves me a taste of Country Joe and the Fish, is lovely and much more psychedelic than it sounds, mainly thanks to the bass. The blue jay, with the airy garage/surf sound, the  those woods of stones is a sublime psychedelic song where the sitar painting it magically, the super psych/paisley another change (to blow) and the psych/pop hey hey rider. The very cool yes I am (excellent song), you had to learn it with hard way, saturday night is the most "rock" songs, while the pill hill can only be described as a psych/ folk /pop poppy (!). The tourist has a pure psychedelia which respond only to great groups of the psychedelic sixties. A delightful song that lasts eight minutes but even if it lasted to 20, it will not bother me at all. Finally, you will never be the same is a 2.30 instro that closes the album perfectly! Get your copy now!

Οι Roaring 420s προέρχονται από την Δρέσδη. Αυτό είναι το ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ τους και μπορώ να πω με βεβαιότητα ότι είναι καταπληκτικό. Παίζουν γκαραζοψυχεδέλεια, έχουν κάποια σερφ στοιχεία, κάποια ανατολίτικα μιας και χρησιμοποιούν και σιτάρ και κάποια πιο… χίπικα (όπως τα αντιλαμβάνομαι εγώ), οι κιθάρες έχουν εντυπωσιακά σίξτις ήχο και τα φωνητικά είναι αξιολάτρευτα και πολύ σαγηνευτικά!! Το εφτάλεπτο bury my burden είναι φανταστικό και μου αφήνει μια γεύση από Country Joe and the Fish, είναι υπέροχο και αρκετά πιο ψυχεδελικό από ότι ακούγεται, κυρίως χάρη στο μπάσο. Το blue jay, με τον αέρινο garage/surf ήχο του, το those woods of stones είναι ένα εξαίσιο ψυχεδελικό τραγούδι όπου το σιτάρ το χρωματίζει μαγικά, το σούπερ psych/paisley another change (to blow) και το psych/pop hey hey rider. Τα πολύ καλά yes I am (θαυμάσιο), you had to learn it with hard way, saturday night είναι τα πιο «ροκ» τραγούδια τους, ενώ το pill hill μπορεί να περιγραφή μόνο σαν μια psych/folk/pop παπαρούνα (!). Το tourist διαθέτει μια αγνή ψυχεδελεια η οποία απαντάτε μόνο στα μεγάλα ψυχεδελικά γκρουπ των σιξτις. Ένα απολαυστικό τραγούδι που διαρκεί 8 λεπτά αλλά και 20 να διαρκούσε δεν θα με χαλούσε καθόλου. Τέλος, το you will never be the same είναι ένα 2.30 instro που κλείνει ιδανικά το άλμπουμ! Πάρτε την κόπια σας τώρα!!

Okay, for how many albums of modern psychedelic bands can you say with certainty that it is really worthy and comparable with that by sixties bands? I personally do to assure (as the psychiatrist who stands by me) that few bands can do this! This Englishmen therefore and also their first album (after a magical 10¨ and two great 7¨) I can say with certainty that it is such. Incredible compositions excellent in feeling songs, exquisite melodies , crystal vocals, clean guitars, a highly seductive organ, eleven songs with high psychedelic pop aesthetic and a fabulous cover. The Wicked Whispers, therefore, have the romance of Country Joe (diamond soup, I'd follow you anywhere), of Jefferson (house of peppermint), the enormous charm of The Doors, the talent to write songs which beat you hard (paper dove, medusa, you would not believe) as once the Love but most of all they have charismatic sensitivity to write songs that don't leave us any room but only to exclaim that yes, these songs only Wicked Whispers know how to write!! As for the odyssey mile I don't think there are words to describe it, just turn up the volume as much as possible and enjoy the magic!! Some songs exist in previous releases of the band but here are in different versions. An album for all!!!!!

Εντάξει, για πόσα άλμπουμ σύγχρονων συγκροτημάτων μπορείτε να λέτε με βεβαιότητα ότι είναι πραγματικά αντάξια των άλμπουμ σίξτις συγκροτημάτων; Εγώ προσωπικά μπορώ να με διαβεβαιώσω (όπως και ο ψυχίατρος που με παρακολουθεί) ότι ελάχιστα το κατορθώνουν αυτό! Οι Εγγλέζοι αυτοί λοιπόν και το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ, (ύστερα από ένα μαγικό 10¨ και δυο σπουδαία 7¨) μπορώ να πω με βεβαιότητα ότι είναι ένα τέτοιο. Απίθανες συνθέσεις, εξαιρετικά σε συναίσθημα τραγούδια, περίσσειες μελωδίες, κρυστάλλινα φωνητικά, καθαρές κιθάρες ένα εξόχως σαγηνευτικό όργανο, έντεκα τραγούδια υψηλής ψυχεδελικής ποπ αισθητικής καθώς και ένα παραμυθένιο εξώφυλλο. Οι Wicked Whispers λοιπόν, διαθέτουν την ρομαντζάδα των Country Joe (diamond soup, I’d follow you anywhere), των Jefferson (house of peppermint), την απύθμενη γοητεία των Doors, το ταλέντο να γράφουν τραγούδια που σε χτυπάνε δυνατά (paper dove, medusa, you wouldn’t believe) όπως κάποτε οι Love, αλλά το σημαντικότερο όλων είναι ότι διαθέτουν χαρισματική ευαισθησία στο να γράφουν τραγούδια στα οποία δεν μας αφήνουν κανένα περιθώριο παρά μονάχα στο να αναφωνήσουμε ότι ναι, αυτά τα τραγούδια μόνο οι Wicked Whispers ξέρουν να τα γράφουν!! Όσο για το odyssey mile δεν νομίζω να υπάρχουν λόγια για να το περιγράψει κανείς, απλά δυναμώνουμε την ένταση όσο πιο πολύ γίνεται και απολαμβάνουμε τη μαγεία του!! Κάποια τραγούδια υπάρχουν και στις προηγούμενες κυκλοφορίες του γκρουπ αλλά εδώ είναι σε διαφορετικές εκτελέσεις. Άλμπουμ για όλους!!!!!

I think that these four youngsters composing this relevantly new group have captured the meaning. They don’t waste their time with common garagey tunes but play a vivid r ’n’ r garage/punk with explosive energy the way Cramps, the great B. Childish and mainly groups that have been seen only in Back From The Grave style compilations have done! Abrupt guitars, even more abrupt drums, bass that’s running to catch up (and it’s catching up!) and playful vocals.  

I also think that I’m a baby is a song that can be played in numerous (stupid) Greek radio stations and for a long time as it’s refrain sticks in your mind as the pasteli (i.e. Greek sesame bar) sticks on your teeth while the powerfully primitive Salt Chunk Mary sounds as if it was written in the mid ’60’s!

Find it (it ain’t hard)!!!!!!

Αυτοί οι τέσσερις πιτσιρικάδες που αποτελούν το σχετικά νέο αυτό σχήμα μου φαίνεται ότι έχουν πιάσει το νόημα. Δεν καταναλώνονται σε κοινότυπα γκαραζάκια αλλά παίζουν ζωηρό r’n’r γκαράζ/πανκ με εκρηκτική ενέργεια και με τον τρόπο που το έπαιξαν οι Cramps, ο παμμέγιστος B. Childish και κυρίως γκρουπ που έχουν υπάρξει μόνο σε συλλογές τύπου Back from the Grave και δε συμμαζεύεται!

Κιθάρες κοφτές, τύμπανα ακόμα πιο κοφτά, μπάσο που τρέχει να προλάβει (και προλαβαίνει!!) και παιχνιδιάρικα φωνητικά.

To I’m a baby νομίζω ότι είναι κομμάτι που μπορεί να παιχτεί σε αρκετούς από τους (ηλίθιους) εδώ ραδιοφωνικούς σταθμούς, και για πολύ καιρό καθώς το ρεφραίν του κολλάει στο μυαλό όπως το καλαματιανό παστέλι στα δόντια, ενώ το δυνατά πρωτόγονο Salt chunk mary ηχεί σαν να γράφτηκε στα μέσα του ’60! 

Βρείτε το (δεν είναι και δύσκολο)!!!!!!!!

Now even tho’ the weirdly named The Voyage Limpid Sound’s LP “Electronically Enhanced Dream” shows skads more reverence to such proven icons as July, Kaleidoscope (g.b.) or a post-touring Brian Wilson than say, USA’s ever expanding E6 collective ever do, the V.L.S. album is still a beautifully realized song cycle of blurred-mind-soft psychedelia. The sublime organ drifts and perfectly weighted vocals are made all the more fascinating by dint of this silver-sleeved curio being the work of (mostly) one mysterious being: Sergios, a Greco-Finn who at this very moment is doing a stint of national service. Let’s hope the brain behind the ‘Astronomy Domine’ clone ‘Lost Planet’ and the mysteries within ‘The Owl’ isn’t square-bashing for TOO long, so come back soon Sergio, y’hear?  (PTOLEMAIC TERRASCOPE No 31 Winter 2001/2)

CRYSTAL JACQUELINE Rainflower

After the Sun Arise, Crystal Jacqueline returns with Rainflower. In this album the psychedelic/rock and folk, acid folk songs are slightly darker in concept and that is what gives a great charm in all compositions! The sweet folk winter deep seems to come from another era, as of course the water hyacinth. Certainly the daisy chains claims the title of the top song, a psych/paisley, with the bass to gives a magical rhythm, simply addictive. Of course and the mary waiting is amazing and quite psychedelic, like the hypnotic strange bloom, but also and the again ... dragonfly, two wonderful slowly psychedelic songs.

Give a day, a week, a month, or more for this great album!!!

Ύστερα από το Sun Arise, η Crystal Jacqueline επανέρχεται με το Rainflower. Σε αυτό το άλμπουμ τα ψυχεδελικά/ροκ και τα φολκ τραγούδια είναι ελαφρώς πιο σκοτεινά σε σύλληψη και αυτό είναι που δίνει μια εξαιρετική γοητεία σε όλες τις συνθέσεις! Το γλυκό φολκ winter deep μοιάζει να έρχεται από μια άλλη εποχή, όπως φυσικά και το water hyacinth. Φυσικά το daisy chains διεκδικεί τον τίτλο του κορυφαίου τραγουδιού, ένα psych/paisley, με το μπάσο να δίνει έναν μαγικό ρυθμό, απλά εθιστικό. Βέβαια και το mary waiting είναι καταπληκτικό και ψυχεδελικό αρκετά, όπως και το υπνωτικό strange bloom, αλλά και το again…dragonfly, δυο θαυμάσια αργόσυρτα ψυχεδελικά τραγούδια.

IMPURITAN Make It Look Like Nothing Happened

I remember back - wayyy back - when I used to buy records mainly because of their covers.  There wasn't all this information or the ability to listen to anything you fancy on the internet, and I recall even record store owners didn't let you give albums a preview listen.  The cover just had to click with you. So, when I saw some album with an attractive, psychedelic cover (suiting my own tastes), I didn't hesitate to buy it.  As a result, I have a number of failed purchases in my music collection but that never particularly bothered me.  Of course, this has all disappeared in recent years (for better or worse). And why did I rattle on with this

extended introduction, you rightfully may be asking?  Good question.

A few weeks ago I received a message from a Greek-American Alex Eliopoulos, who wanted to share with me his band Impuritan, based in California. When I saw the beautiful and macabre cover art for their album I assumed the band's sound would encompass drone, acid folks, and darker tones.  I was fooled, since Impuritan's first LP is an amazing psychedelic rock album with outstanding compositions.

For example, "Radioactive Love Tide" is a song which evolves in a wonderful way, culminating in an organ part that meshes psychedelic tones in an intoxicating way.  Or take "Wax/Wane", which is also fantastic.  Other songs like "Show Us Your Hidden Daggers" and "Primeval Circles" are more impetuous in nature and yet still cohesive. "Sun Goblins" is a psychedelic dream with a rhythm that pervades your entire nervous system strongly, while "The Specter Song" is a playful folk creation that brings to mind the unique Mooseheart Faith.  The album closes with the ambient space delirium "The Only Way Out".

Θυμάμαι παλιά, πολυυυυυυυύ παλιά, ότι αγόραζα δίσκους κυρίως λόγω των εξωφύλλων τους. Δεν υπήρχε τότε όλη αυτή η πληροφορία, η δυνατότητα να ακούσεις ότι γουστάρεις στο ιντερνετ, και αν θυμάμαι καλά, νομίζω ότι τότε ούτε  αυτοί που είχαν τα δισκάδικα σου έκαναν την χάρη να ακούσεις αυτό που ήθελες να αγοράσεις επειδή απλά και μόνο σου ‘χε κάνει κλικ το εξώφυλλο. Έτσι, όταν έβλεπα κάποιο άλμπουμ με ωραίο και ψυχεδελικό εξώφυλλο (σύμφωνα με τα γούστα μου) δεν δίσταζα να το αποκτήσω! Έτσι, έχω στο ενεργητικό μου ένα συμπαθητικό αριθμό αποτυχημένων αγορών εξαιτίας αυτού αλλά ουδέποτε με ενόχλησε ιδιαίτερα!! Φυσικά όλα αυτά έχουν εκλείψει τα τελευταία χρόνια (καλώς η κακώς!!). Και γιατί ρε φίλε μας έπρηξες με αυτή την εισαγωγή θα με ρωτήσεις και με το δίκιο σου!!! Καλή ερώτηση. Λοιπόν, πριν από λίγες βδομάδες έλαβα ένα μήνυμα από τον ελληνοαμερικάνο Άλεξ Ηλιόπουλο, ο οποίος ήθελε να μου παρουσιάσει την μπάντα του, τους Impuritan από την Καλιφόρνια. Όταν μπήκα στην σελίδα και είδα το (ωραίο και μακάβριο) εξώφυλλο φαντάστηκα ότι από αυτό το άλμπουμ θα ξεπήδαγαν ποιο drone, πιο acid folk και πιο σκοτεινοί ήχοι! Γελάστηκα όμως, μιας και το άλμπουμ των Impuritan είναι ένα καταπληκτικό ψυχεδελικό ροκ άλμπουμ, όπου οι συνθέσεις είναι πραγματικά εξαιρετικές!! Για παράδειγμα το radioactive love tide είναι ένα τραγούδι το οποίο εξελίσσεται με υπέροχο τρόπο ως το σημείο που το όργανο πλέκει ψυχεδελικούς ήχους με μεθυστικό και εξόχως τριπαριστό τρόπο. ΄Η και το wax/wane, το οποίο και αυτό είναι θαυμάσιο!! Το show us your hidden daggers αλλά και το primeval circles από την άλλη είναι δυο τραγούδια πιο ορμητικά σε κάποιες στιγμές, εξίσου όμως λειτουργικά! Το sun goblins είναι ένα ψυχεδελικό όνειρο με τον ρυθμό να εισχωρεί σε ολόκληρο το νευρικό σύστημα και να το τονώνει, ενώ το the specter song είναι ένα παιχνιδιάρικο φολκ δημιούργημα το οποίο μου έφερε στο μυαλό τους μοναδικούς Mooseheart Faith. To άλμπουμ κλείνει με το ambient space παραλήρημα the only way out!!!

GALACTIC HARBOUR interview

The Galactic Harbour, coming from Rochester, is among the few bands, which you can find only very few things in the vast spy and chaotic world of the internet! My acquaintance with them had been established when Dave Anderson (Jargon Records) had sent me their then release, the Original Objects From Outside Galactic Perimeter, a slightly paranoid, avant-garde, experimental, psych result of schizo-technical. Few weeks ago, Thomas John Byrne sent me five other works from the releases of Galactic Harbour and I must admit that I was impressed by what I heard. Intensely psychedelic songs drenched in sometimes acid, sometimes hard guitars, psych-heavy rhythms, a few more garage rock moments naturally without missing the magnificent avant-garde element and recitations of the most freak out moments! So yes, the Galactic Harbour is a genuine freak out group! Try and find them!

 

When did Galactic Harbour form?   formed in 2001 after the floggin catatonics broke up. the idea was to take things even farther into space

With what kind of music influences were you brought up with?   I started out digging threw my older brothers record collections, and that put me ahead of the curve as far as most kids my age. but when i started collecting on my own i found so much more. i focused on blues rock, early 70s hard rock, 60s psych, and jazz. i also was a die hard zappa fan

On the internet I don’t found almost anything for Galactic Harbour. Why you don’t use this thing to promote your music?  my internet footprint is very limited, and that is my fault. almost 30 years of recording and playing in bands there is not much out there on the net, but its all there in akashic records .

Are you known in your city and beyond;   galactic harbour is not a house hold name in rochester, but then agian not too many bands are. even some of the hardest working bands fail to gain any sort of fame. rochester is a music town, but it is also a working class town that favors national acts , but we are known around the record stores, and after years of hauling cds and the 20+ members that have passed thru the ranks weve built up a small cult following.

What is the common thing that exists in Rochester for a group like yours?   well there has been a little more of the kind of music we do, but we are the only group that has an open door policy. any one who is like minded ,and cool can fly into the harbour and can at least sit in with us.

How you could describe the kind of music you play?  there is no limitations ,no musical genra is off the table, as long as its a style we like. for me its like zappa... anything and anything for no reason at all.

The first cd of yours that Dave sent me was the Original objects from outside galactic perimeter, an avant-garde/experimental album! In releases that you sent me your songs dominate the hard guitars, the sound slightly stoner, psychedelic, garage and of course with many experimentation and avant guard elements. What are your influences? How do you filter in your songs all that?   we have released 13 studio cds ,4 live cds ,and countless private press home recordings. i always try to feature a heavy fuzz guitar sound. what you get with us is  real people raw and unfiltered music.

What else are involved beyond the music?   i like to paint, but i cant do it as much as i like cus it costs to much money for paint and canvas, also like to work out , but music is my main interest

Your lyrics what things mentioned?     the lyrics for the word spoken stuff is sub-conscious steam of thoughts , and taking a cue from the beat poets from the 50s and 60s. as far as the songs some are ideas that i have been kicking around, some just come to me after waking up.

Do you play gigs?   we do once in a while we have some live cds. we have a current line up with my old band mate,  chris shepp from the flesh marbles, and long time friend who i have been in many bands with, and original galactic harbour  drummer rich eichelberg. we have played a handful of gigs and hope to make some formal live recordings as well as a new studio album.

Tell me some things about folk album Chico Zasfurious. How did this?  the chico zasfurious folk album was recorded in 2007 ,and just laid there for several years. i wanted to add some more songs and do some dubbing, but never got around to it, then when i finnaly got around to it dave anderson could not find the masters so there it is ruff edges and all. its a more simple version of the first chic z album "way beyond melted". that has dave anderson on bass.                                                                            The cds artwork is quite psychedelic, but the lines are so heavy. What inspires you?     i never know what im going to get when i start out, im just looking for some thing weird and twisted with rich colors, the heavy lines kind of give separation.im inspired by the undeground cartoonists ,r crum,rick griffin, rob williams. a cool cover makes you want to like an album

What are your next plans?     we are gonna lay low for the summer, maybe do a few shows,and maybe do something in the fall,all the galactic harbour stuff is pretty much planned at the last minute , but we really wanna do an album before the end of this year.
