I’m not sure if this, the fifth Machine album, is their best but I know that further than their familiar standards that evolve stoner sound, their beastly acid blues guitar passages and all the things they do, they also have two songs that made me stop doing anything else than listen to them many times until I figure them out. Those two blew up any arguments I have regarding these sound. Of course II;’ speaking about the 16 plus minutes demon meteor of chrysalis (jam), which especially in the first 7 min. it swirls without mercy, the forceful guitar takes off to infinite cosmos, meets planet Hawkwind, and returns after those 7 min. to arise Jimi from where he lies!!! The other one is the 12 min. come to light which at the end it’s vicious guitars sound possessed and the Theremin beaming up the result. Beware though! Don’t you think that coda sun (with it’s dry stoner sound) and gamma are lacking anything. Neither dry end και off course. Well, at the end it is their best album!!!

Δεν είμαι σίγουρος αν αυτό, το πέμπτο άλμπουμ των Machine, είναι το καλύτερό τους, ξέρω όμως ότι πέρα από τα γνωστά στάνταρ τους τα οποία αφορούν τους stoner ήχους, τα δαιμονισμένα acid blues κιθαριστικά περάσματα και όλα αυτά με τα οποία καταπιάνονται, έχουν και δυο τραγούδια που πραγματικά με έκαναν να μην μπορώ να κάνω τίποτα άλλο πέρα από το να τα ακούσω αρκετές φορές για να καταλάβω τι γίνεται. Πραγματικά μου ανατίναξαν τις όποιες ενστάσεις μου σχετικά με αυτούς τους ήχους. Μιλάω φυσικά για το 16+ δαιμονισμένο μετεωρίτη του chrysalis (jam), ο οποίος ειδικά στα πρώτα 7 λεπτά του στροβιλίζεται αδυσώπητα, η ορμητική κιθάρα εκτινάσσεται στο αχανές διάστημα, συναντάει τον γνωστό πλανήτη Hawkwind, και επιστρέφει μετά τα 7 αυτά λεπτά για να σηκώσει τον Jimi από κει που βρίσκεται!!!! Το άλλο είναι το 12λεπτο come to light όπου στο τέλος του οι λυσσαλέες κιθάρες ηχούν σαν μανιασμένες και με την θερεμίνη (;) να διαστημίζει το αποτέλεσμα. Προσοχή όμως! Μην νομίζεται ότι τα  coda sun (με τον ξερό stoner ήχο) και gamma πάνε πίσω! Ούτε φυσικά και τα dry end και off course. Μπα, τελικά είναι το καλύτερο τους άλμπουμ!!!

Dreamy pés na areia na terra do sol is a fine example of the talent of Beautify Junkyards members. They use quite some electronic elements with splendid results for this kind of music. Each song is like narrating a different tale and the captivating tomorrow’s children is such an one that evolves more magically to wards the end! They use various effects, the thing that gives you goose bumps are the truly wonderful acoustic and electric guitars that flow on their wonderful songs, and naturally the magical voice of their lady singer!! Need to write more? Αυτό είναι το δεύτερο άλμπουμ των Πορτογάλων Beautify Junkyards. Είναι ένα άλμπουμ γεμάτο ακουστική ασιντ φολκ μουσική, ποτισμένη με σωστές δόσεις ονειρικής ψυχεδελικής μουσικής! Το ονειρικό pés na areia na terra do sol είναι ένα εξαίσιο δείγμα του ταλέντου των μουσικών που απαρτίζουν τους Beautify Junkyards. Χρησιμοποιούν αρκετά ηλεκτρονικά στοιχεία με εξαιρετικά όμως αποτελέσματα για αυτού του είδους την μουσική. Κάθε τραγούδι είναι σαν να διηγούνται και ένα ξεχωριστό παραμύθι και το συναρπαστικό tomorrow’s children είναι ένα τέτοιο που εξελίσσεται όλο και πιο μαγικό όσο φτάνει προς το τέλος του! Χρησιμοποιούν διάφορα εφφέ, αυτό όμως που ανατριχιάζει ολόκληρο το σώμα μου είναι οι πραγματικά θαυμάσιες ακουστικές και ηλεκτρικές κιθάρες που ρέουν στα υπέροχα τραγούδια τους, όπως φυσικά και η μαγική φωνή της τραγουδίστριας τους!!  Χρειάζεται να γράψω τίποτα άλλο;

Magic Bus have two cd albums and one 7” single. This is their second 7” including two songs. Seven Wonders and Eight Miles High. The first one is like taking a dive in the 70’s, has crystal sound and brings in mind my beloved Caravan, flute and organ are exquisite, in a few words a wonderful song that you can also find in their album titled Transmission From Sogmore’s Garden.

Their cover on the Byrds’ song is a new recording and it is completely different as for about two minutes the organ is accompanying the vocals until the other instruments follow up to create a very psychedelic Canterburian ambience. Get it!! 

Οι Magic Bus έχουν δυο άλμπουμ (σε σιντι) και ένα σινγκλ. Αυτό είναι το δεύτερο 7’’ τους και περιέχει δυο τραγούδια. Το seven wonders και το eight miles high. Το πρώτο είναι μια βουτιά στα 70ς, έχει κρυστάλλινο ήχο, φέρνει στο μυαλό τους αγαπημένους μου Caravan, το φλάουτο και το όργανο είναι έξοχα, με λίγα λόγια είναι καταπληκτικό τραγούδι και υπάρχει στο τελευταίο τους άλμπουμ με τίτλο Transmission From Sogmore’s Garden.

Η διασκευή στο τραγούδι των Byrds είναι μια νέα ηχογράφηση και είναι εντελώς διαφορετική μιας και για δυο περίπου λεπτά το όργανο συνοδεύει την φωνή ώσπου να ακολουθήσουν και τα υπόλοιπα όργανα για να δημιουργήσουν μια πολύ ψυχεδελική και αρκετά Canterbury ατμόσφαιρα. Πάρτε το!!

Kozmik ArtifactzThe unhappiness rhythm of the organ in the introduction (first sermon) of this album will us indicate the Highest recommendation melancholic moods of Grusom. Based physically in progressive/rock bands of the 70s (and vaguely reminiscent of Doors at some points!!), have enough hard/rock elements, while the slow rhythms bring in the mind the psychedelic groups that acted late 60s early 70s, manage to stand comfortably, since their sound is based on the organ and the beautiful voice of the singer. Of course they aren't prototyping with their sound, but have bottomless talent for writing songs that loud beating to our souls! Some of them are evil, the cold stone, the beautifully dark journey, exquisite bleed for you and of course the unique gruesome. Highest recommendation!!! 

Ο στεναχτικός ρυθμός του οργάνου στην εισαγωγή (first sermon) του άλμπουμ μας κάνει γνωστές τις μελαγχολικές διαθέσεις των Grusom. Στηριζόμενοι φυσικά στα progressive/rock γκρουπ των 70ς (θυμίζουν και αμυδρά Doors σε κάποια σημεία!!), έχουν αρκετά hard/rock στοιχεία, ενώ οι αργοί ρυθμοί τους φέρνουν ελαφρώς στα ψυχεδελικά σχήματα που έδρασαν τέλη 60ς αρχές 70ς, καταφέρνουν και ξεχωρίζουν άνετα, μιας και ο ήχος τους στηρίζεται στο όργανο και στην όμορφη φωνή του τραγουδιστή τους. Φυσικά δεν πρωτοτυπούν με τον ήχο τους, διαθέτουν όμως απύθμενο ταλέντο στο να γράφουν τραγούδια που χτυπάνε δυνατά τις ψυχές μας! Μερικά από αυτά είναι το evil, το cold stone, το υπέροχα σκοτεινό the journey, το εξαίσιο bleed for you και φυσικά το μοναδικό gruesome.

Don't Drink The Water by Zx + (for the punctuality by Stephen Evans) is an album full of pop references that start from the 60s, make a stop in 80s and continues unabated to this day! In between has enough time to make a psychedelic folk instro with a title being a dash two relentlessly power pop candies, mud and rubble, don't drink the water. But these that stand out in particular are the crazies, pet sematary and the desert. Fans of more.. different guitar pop that doesn't use the easy way to enjoy and is written primarily to meet the needs of its creator, well, then all these will find very interesting the view of Zx +.

Το Don’t Drink The Water των Zx+ (για την ακρίβεια του Stephen Evans) είναι ένα άλμπουμ γεμάτο ποπ αναφορές οι οποίες ξεκινάνε από τα 60ς, κάνουν μια στάση στα 80ς και συνεχίζουν με αμείωτη ένταση ως τις μέρες μας!

Προλαβαίνει στο ενδιάμεσο να κάνει και ένα φολκ ψυχεδελικό ίνστρο με τίτλο μια παύλα, δύο αδυσώπητα power ποπ γλυκίσματα, mud and rubble, don’t drink the water. Αυτά όμως που ξεχωρίζουν ιδιαίτερα είναι τα the crazies, pet sematary και the desert. Οι φίλοι της πιο.. διαφορετικής κιθαριστικής ποπ μουσικής η οποία δεν χρησιμοποιεί τον εύκολο τρόπο για να αρέσει και είναι γραμμένη κυρίως για να καλύψει τις ανάγκες του δημιουργού της, ε, λοιπόν όλοι αυτοί θα βρουν πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα την άποψη των Zx+.

This is the first album of the Swiss Juleah. In essence we're talking about a beautiful girl, who plays all instruments and sings her beautiful songs! The sound of the songs lost in gentle psychedelic guitar rock and pop melodies. All songs are flowing without hurry, as I wrote the songs are cool, have an interiority and aren't lost in unpredictable and hard trails! On a float, together is probably the best song on the album, a pop candy with beautiful guitars, as in to miss that is more psychedelic and sent me directly to the first album of Englishmen Broadcast (except from the acoustic guitar)! !! Also, the extraordinary sommertraum, that gave me good impression while the wild machine and beautiful for you are two very sentient songs

Αυτό είναι το πρώτο άλμπουμ των Ελβετών Juleah. Στην ουσία πρόκειται για ένα όμορφο κορίτσι, το οποίο παίζει όλα τα όργανα και τραγουδάει τα όμορφα τραγούδια της! Ο ήχος των τραγουδιών χάνεται σε απαλές κιθαριστικές ψυχεδελικές ροκ αλλά και ποπ μελωδίες. Όλα τα τραγούδια ρέουν χωρίς βιασύνη, διαθέτουν μια εσωτερικότητα και δεν χάνονται σε απρόβλεπτά και σκληρά μονοπάτια! Το on a float, together είναι ίσως το καλύτερο τραγούδι του άλμπουμ, ένα ποπ γλύκισμα με όμορφες κιθάρες, όπως και το to miss το οποίο είναι πιο ψυχεδελικό και με έστειλε κατευθείαν στα πρώτα άλμπουμ των Εγγλεζών Broadcast (αν εξαιρέσει κανείς την ακουστική κιθάρα)!!! Επίσης, το εξαιρετικότατο sommertraum μου έκανε ιδιαίτερη εντύπωση, ενώ τα wild machine και beautiful for you είναι δυο πολύ αισθαντικά τραγούδια..

DATURA4 Demon Blues

From Fremantle Australia come the Datura4 the new group of Dom Mariani (The Stems) and guitarist Greg Hitchock, who had played some time with the legendary New Christs! Along the drummer Warren Hall and bassist Stu Loasby. Demon Blues is not just what the title describes. It is a heavy garage/blues guitar orgy similar to what we found mainly in the Australian groups who were active in the 80s-90s! If you add the strong doses of heavy/psych and the hard/blues influences from bands such ZZ Top, even the very early Acdc, then you have a picture of this album! The groovy/blues hoonsvile with guitars that shrilled and derail the very good journey home, the super killjoy, of course the gravedigger man and finally the 7minutes love to burn with the psychedelic references, also and the possessed good cover, clarify that the album by Datura4 deserves to be heard by many people

Από το Fremantle της Αυστραλίας οι Datura4 είναι το νέο σχήμα του Dom Mariani (The Stems) και του κιθαρίστα Greg Hitchock, ο οποίος είχε παίξει κάποια στιγμή και στους θρυλικούς New Christs! Μαζί τους ο ντράμερ Warren Hall και ο μπασίστας Stu Loasby. To Demon Blues δεν είναι μόνο αυτό που περιγράφει ο τίτλος. Είναι ένα heavy garage/blues κιθαριστικό όργιο που παρόμοιο του συναντάμε στα κυρίως στα αυστραλέζικα γκρουπ που έδρασαν στα 80ς-90ς! Αν δε, προσθέσετε και ισχυρές δόσεις heavy/psych καθώς και τις hard/blues παρακαταθήκες συγκροτημάτων όπως ήταν οι ZZ Top, οι ακόμα και των πολύ πρώιμων Acdc, τότε έχετε μια εικόνα για αυτό το άλμπουμ! Το groovie/blues hoonsvile με τις κιθάρες να στριγγλίζουν και να εκτροχιάζονται, το πολύ καλό journey home, το σούπερ killjoy, φυσικά το gravedigger man και τέλος το 7λεπτό love to burn με τις ψυχεδελικές του αναφορές, αλλά και το δαιμονισμένα καλό εξώφυλλο, μας ξεκαθαρίζουν ότι το άλμπουμ των Datura4 αξίζει να ακουστεί από πολύ κόσμο!

SKY PICNIC Her Dawn Wardrobe

This is the third album for Sky Picnic after the title album of 2011 and the Paint Me A Dream of 2012, both for Nasoni. To Her Dawn Wardrobe finds them in extremely psychedelic moods and the songs of the album is a step above from the previous, also excellent songs! Closer (in my opinion) to the psychedelic sixties, they evolve into genuine children of Jefferson Airplane, especially in songs such as upon further reflection, june sunshine, I see you saw (fantastic psychedelic song !!!), where the memories stirred (lady juniper). On the other hand, the gentle and dreamy psychedelic moment of the lady of the moon with great mellotron, but and all the other songs of the album as the very small in length ode to, the instro most of a box of winter, the folk her dawn wardrobe and the most powerful and with wonderful guitar and with transitions in sound, ear grey complete a great album!

Αυτό είναι το τρίτο άλμπουμ για τους Sky Picnic ύστερα από το ομώνυμο του 2011 και το Paint Me A Dream του 2012, και τα δυο για τη Nasoni. To Her Dawn Wardrobe τους βρίσκει με εξαιρετικά ψυχεδελικές διαθέσεις και τα τραγούδια του δίσκου είναι ένα σκαλοπάτι πιο πάνω από τα προηγούμενα, επίσης εξαιρετικά τραγούδια τους! Πιο κοντά (κατά την γνώμη μου) στα ψυχεδελικά σίξτις, εξελίσσονται σε γνήσια τέκνα των Jefferson Airplane, ειδικά σε τραγούδια όπως είναι τα upon further reflection, june sunshine, I see you saw (φανταστικά ψυχεδελικό τραγούδι!!!). Από την άλλη η ονειρική και ευγενική ψυχεδελική στιγμή του lady of the moon με το εξαιρετικό mellotron, αλλά και όλα τα υπόλοιπα τραγούδια του άλμπουμ όπως το πολύ μικρό σε διάρκεια ode to, το instro most of a box of winter, το φολκ her dawn wardrobe, καθώς και το πιο δυνατό και με θαυμάσια κιθάρα και εναλλαγές στον ήχο, ear grey ολοκληρώνουν ένα εξαιρετικό άλμπουμ!

Karma To Burn from West Virginia continue for twenty years to offer (mostly) hard instrumental pieces, as far as stoner rock, but not necessarily pulling the pieces in duration, filled with heavy and versatile guitar riffs. Eight infernal intensity tracks, which you shouldn't leave with, complain the friends of the group. Especially the song that closes the album, the fifth-nine, in which Karma put dialogues from the movie the good, the bad and the ugly, things become even more attractive for someone who doesn't hear this kind of music! The years go by, there are changes in the group, but those who stay and those who come take care to keep the name of Karma To Burn in full action. Those who don't know them (there are such?) will thrilled, the other will rub their hands with delight, some will ponder "what man is capable of" and then others will politely knock on their backs!

 

Οι Karma To Burn από την Δυτική Βιρτζίνια συνεχίζουν εδώ και μια εικοσαετία να προσφέρουν (κυρίως) σκληρά ινστρουμένταλ κομμάτια, στα όρια του stoner rock, χωρίς απαραίτητα να τραβάνε τα κομμάτια σε διάρκειες, γεμάτα με βαριά αλλά ευέλικτα κιθαριστικά riffs. Οκτώ κομμάτια διαβολεμένης έντασης, τα οποία λογικά δεν θα αφήνουν παραπονούμενους τους φίλους του γκρουπ. Ειδικά το κομμάτι που κλείνει το άλμπουμ, το fifth-nine, στο οποίο οι Karma βάζουν διαλόγους από την ταινία O καλός, ο κακός και ο άσχημος, τα πράγματα γίνονται πιο ελκυστικά ακόμα και για κάποιον που δεν ακούει αυτού του είδους τη μουσική! Τα χρόνια περνούν, υπάρχουν αλλαγές στο γκρουπ αλλά αυτοί που μένουν και αυτοί που έρχονται φροντίζουν στο να κρατάνε το όνομα των Karma To Burn σε πλήρη δράση.

Όσοι δεν τους γνωρίζουν (υπάρχουν τέτοιοι;) θα ενθουσιαστούν, οι λοιποί θα τρίψουν τα χέρια τους από ευχαρίστηση, κάποιοι θα αναλογιστούν ”τι σου είναι ο άνθρωπος» και τέλος κάποιοι άλλοι θα τους χτυπήσουν ευγενικά στις πλάτες!

Drug Free Youth

Drug Free Youth are a Greek band who play totally 60s retro garage-psych songs, with fuzzed guitars and classic cheesy high pitched keyboards. Yeah, we're talking Electric Prunes, 13th Floor Elevators, The Seeds… you get the idea. Songs like "Nubich" feature excellent fuzzed guitar solos. "Time Will Tell" is a bouncy energetic psych rocker with novelty song qualities. I love the liquid wah guitar on "Queen Of My Town". "The Zap Gun" and "Time Is Iced In An Instant" really rock out. And freakiness abounds on several songs. "(There Are Faces) Under My Pillow" is a melodic instrumental that later brings in excellent trip guitar. "Musta" is another outstanding lysergic psychedelic instrumental with an Eastern flavor and awesome 60s guitar effects. The band go into deep space on "It Took Me So Long". And "New State of Mind" has a "Pushin' Too Hard" sound and killer guitar work too. Most of the songs range from less than 2 minutes and sometimes exceed 3 minutes. But the closing track, "Visions Of A Gypsy Queen", is nearly 8 minutes. The keyboards lay down a melody line while the guitar trips around behind it. Lots of great sounds and efx'd soloing. This is a 3 minute instrumental bit that leads into the main song. The song portion is actually one of the weaker ones of the set, but it's not long before Drug Free Youth dispense with all that and launch themselves back into another spaced out psychedelic instrumental exploration. These guys have got the 60s sound down pat, have a real knack for songwriting, and back the songs with lots of wild and fun psychedelia. Good stuff (Aural Innovations)

Τι γίνεται όταν το ψυχεδελικό garage συναντά το punk και παίρνουν μαζί trip στοιχεία και μπόλικη echo; Ναι, αυτό ακριβώς: μαγεία! Πίσω εκεί που οι Yardbird μας δίδαξαν τα διαφορετικά solos κιθάρας, εκεί που ο ορισμός της ψυχεδέλειας μέσα από χαοτικά, πολύχρωμα logos και καπνούς, κάπου στο '60, έγινε μουσική. Αυτό ακριβώς θέλησαν να κάνουν πράξη και οι Drug Free Youth "the man" (όλο αυτό είναι παράγωγο / δουλειά ενός και μόνο ατόμου!) και το κάνουν με αρκετή επιτυχία. "A Message From Now" ονομάζεται αυτή η δουλειά που κυκλοφορεί αρχές του 2007, με την προσδοκία να κατακτήσει όλα τα ψυχεδελικά σπίτια, ελληνικά και μη, μιας και πρόκειται για παγκόσμια κυκλοφορία και μόνο σε 750 κόπιες παρακαλώ.
Ο ρόλος των echo και punk φωνητικών είναι κάτι παραπάνω από καταλυτικός και αφήνει στα αυτιά μια αίσθηση αλά «Φόβος και Παράνοια στο Λας Βέγκας». 15 κομμάτια βουτηγμένα στην ονειρόσκονη μιας άλλης εποχής που σίγουρα δε θα σας αφήσουν αδιάφορους αν είστε λάτρεις της. Underground κουλτούρα ή απλά παλιομοδίτικος cult ήχος; Όπως και να το πούμε, είναι αυθεντικό και ταξιδιάρικο με έντονο το δυτικό αλλά και το ελληνικό στοιχείο.
Από την πρώτη ακρόαση ξεχωρίζουμε τα "Junky Onassis" (το πιάσατε το υπονοούμενο, έτσι;), "Visions Of A Gypsy Queen" (σπάσ' τα!) και "Rise Above" το οποίο και υπερψηφίζουμε για υποψήφιο θέμα στην επόμενη ταινία του κυρίου Tarantino. Quentin, ακούς αγόρι μου;
